Echo Spotlight

Due to the scope and nature of this project, live view is unavailable at this time.

EchoVC, a leading venture capital firm, faced inefficiencies in managing their diverse portfolio of clients and investments. Their existing 3rd party platform struggled to handle key tasks like:

  • Automated Report Scheduling: Manually generating reports was time-consuming and hampered timely decision-making.

  • Seamless Dashboard Sharing: Sharing portfolio insights with stakeholders across the firm lacked a user-friendly and secure system.

  • Centralized Portfolio Information: Crucial data on portfolio companies was scattered, hindering a holistic view of their investments.

EchoVC needed a flexible platform that would streamline these processes and empower them to manage their portfolio with greater efficiency and perhaps simplicity. Thus, Spotlight was born.

How we started

To kick off the research phase, I conducted in-depth interviews with the portfolio manager, the only stakeholder I had access to. The interview basically helped me gain a comprehensive understanding of the company's organizational structure and user access levels. I analyzed company documentation on department roles and responsibilities, and further clarified details through interviews. This research resulted in a detailed user access hierarchy that would directly inform the platform's permission system. The interview also helped me to understand his workflow and the challenges he faced when working on similar products. This user-centered approach ensured that the platform's functionalities would directly address the needs and pain points of the target audience.

Issues we identified

The product that was being used lacked features for:

  1. Team Access Control: Controlling which team members and advisors had access to specific investment details based on their roles.

  2. Tranche Management: Tracking investment rounds (tranches) and their associated commitments was cumbersome. My client needed a system to efficiently manage the flow of funds across different stages.

  3. Seamless Stakeholder Communication: Collaboration and sharing updates with portfolio companies, co-investors, and other external parties was difficult.
